Global United Limited was originally established in Freeport in 1991 by Captain Jackson Ritchie as TANJA Enterprises. Global United Ltd. subsidiaries now include Global United ( Freeport) Limited, Global United ( Nassau) Ltd., The Travel Network and United Shipping Limited. The Nassau operations are comprised of Global United ( Nassau) Limited, Ritchie Aviation Limited and Seair Airways Limited. Global United ( Nassau) recently acquired Global Customs Brokers & Trucking Ltd. and World Bound Couriers, enabling this conglomerate to provide services to anyone and anything that moves on the land, in the air or on the sea. Whilst its primary business started with services to the maritime industry, over the past 14 years, Global United has rapidly expanded the breadth and scope of operations that now include a high level of service to the international shipping community as well as customs clearance and brokerage and travel services to it clients.
Global United’s primary objective is to provide a “one stop shop” experience for importers and exporters. It will achieve this through its logistics services that enable shippers or importers to use a single company for all of its shipping and transportation services. Instead of a local importer having to employ the separate services of a freight forwarder in a foreign country, independent truckers, a shipping line, and local brokers and truckers, Global United provides a single point of contact at the source of shipment and has the ability to electronically track the status of each shipments online. This technology will be demonstrated at the official opening of the company’s offices on Friday.
Mr. Ritchie noted that: “today, without fear of contradiction, we are the largest ship services and logistics company in the Bahamas. We have established and maintained a good client base and employs cadre of qualified Bahamians. Now headquartered in Nassau, our goal is to open sub offices in many of the Caribbean islands within the next 24 months. In addition, we plan to have a presence in many of the major maritime centres of the world within the next five years.” Mr. Ritchie’s professional maritime career began as a naval officer in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force where he served from 1977 to 1983. After leaving the Defence Force, he became the Assistant Port Director and Harbour Master of the Freeport Harbour Company where he served until 1991. “At present”, says Mr. Ritchie, “Global serves the majority of cruise lines and a good percentage of other vessel operators such as tankers, container vessels and general cargo vessels.” The company operates on a 24-hour basis and uses the most modern technology to ensure that its clients receive the highest quality of services.
Over the last 14 years, Global United Limited has grown to become the Bahamas’ largest, most modern and professional ship services company. The company’s offices operate on a 24-hour basis. The 200 + all Bahamian staff uses the latest technology to ensure its clients receive high quality service. Negotiations began last year with prominent Bahamian owners of United Shipping and resulted in the transaction being finalized in March of 2004.
According to Founder and President of Tanja Enterprises, Captain Jackson L. Ritchie, this recent acquisition serves to provide its customers with “the best service at the best rate.” At present, Tanja serves the majority of Cruise lines and a good percentage of other vessel operators such as tankers, container vessels and general cargo vessels.
